Prospective graduate students interested in working with me should develop projects that apply critical race and postcolonial theories to questions of environmental justice and/or transnational migrations. Graduate students should have at least two years relevant experience – for example, organizing for climate justice, working as an administrative assistant in an immigration law firm, or personal experience with transnational migrations. Students should have demonstrated cultural competencies, including language proficiencies as appropriate to fieldwork.
If you are planning to apply to the Geography MA/PhD and I might be a potential committee member, you should write me an email before you apply that briefly explains: a possible research project you'd like to work on, why you are qualified to do so, and what research/theoretical perspectives we might share (you don't need to read my articles and cite them in your email, I promise!). If you can start your email subject line with "Prospective student: ...", it will help me keep track of your message. Thank you!
